Location is VERY important when choosing a hotel in Athens. I recommend being in or near the Plaka because you will be able to walk to just about all the important sites and entertainment areas of Athens. The hotels listed towards the top of each section are within walking distance of the Acropolis, Monastiraki, Syntagma, Makrigianni-Koukaki and all the shopping and restaurant and cafe areas. As you go down the list you get further away from the historical center of the city and prices get lower(in many cases) but then you need to use the metro, taxis and the buses. So in other words they are listed in order of location with the best at the top and the worst towards the bottom. I recommend women and families stick to the hotels in the upper sections. For more information on where to stay see the hotels page in my Athens Survival Guide. Hotels are listed starting with my favorites (with photo) and then by category from highest(5-star) to lowest. In case you are wondering the above photo is the Electra Palace Some people don't like to stay in cities and so I also have a Beach, Airport and Suburban Hotels Page for those of you who want to stay on the Apollo Coast or what they now call the Athenian Riviera. If you want to be able to get into Athens for a day and see the important sites then I suggest staying in Kifissia or in the coastal towns of Voula, Vouliagmeni, Glyfada and Faliron. You can Click here for Kifissia, Beach and Pireaus Hotels. For those looking for apartments in Athens you can find them on my Athens Apartments page. If you are looking for very cheap hotels and hostels see Cheap Hotels and Youth Hostels. Please note that the hotels booked through Booking.com only give me a commission if you book it now. So if you are not ready to book either save this page and come back again when you are ready to book. Or if the hotel has free cancellation book it now and if you change your mind later cancel it and book another to help support these websites. NOTE! Athens will be very busy this summer. If you are finding that the hotels you want have no availability or you can't find a room anywhere in Athens try my page for Booking Hotels Directly. If that doesn't work contact a Greek Travel Agency |

Helpful Athens Hotel InformationPlease note that the hotels booked through Booking.com only give me a commission if you book it now. So if you are not ready to book either save that hotel to your favorite places or come back to this page again when you are ready to book to help support these websites. You can find hotels in Athens by location, price, whether or not it has a swimming pool, and see photos and reviews by using this link to booking.com. Excellent prices and many hotels you can book and then cancel with no cancellation fee. For those who want to book without using a travel agency this is the best way to do it. You can now book directly with many hotels, apartments and villas in and around Athens by going to my new Athens Hotels Direct Booking Page Confused? Overwhelmed? Want me to help you find a hotel? See my Hotel Booking Assistance Page Need Help? Try Booking.com Hotel Search. Can't Find a Room? Contact Fantasy Travel If you have an early flight you don't need to stay near the airport. Traffic is light in the morning and you can be there from central Athens in 30 minutes. If you have an early ferry there is no reason to stay in Pireaus either. From Monastiraki metro station you can be in the port of Pireaus in 15 minutes. See also Kifissia, Beach and Pireaus Hotels
if you don't want to be in the center of Athens Stay on an Island Near Athens The islands of Aegina, Angistri and Poros are close enough to Athens so that you can stay there and do a day trip into the city and be home in time for a swim before dinner. Agia Marina in Aegina is less than half an hour from Pireaus by Flying Dolphin. So if you don't think you want to be in the city but you still want to see the city be sure to see Hotels in the Saronic Islands. Check also Corinth and Isthmia in the Peloponessos section which is only about an hour away from Athens. You can even stay on the island of Kea and do daytrips into Athens. It's an hour ferry ride to Lavrion and then an hour by car or taxi or an hour and a half by bus to Athens. You can even see Athens from Hydra if you use the Flying Dolphins or highspeed catamaras but it is not something you will want to do every day because it gets expensive. You can e-mail me for specific hotel needs and recommendations. For transportation to your hotel from the airport I recommend George the Famous Taxi Driver of Athens who can also take you around the city for day tours as well as day-tours and overnight trips around the mainland. |
