Aegina makes a nice day trip from Athens but it is also a popular island for people to spend a day or two or even a week or two. With a scenic port town with restaurants, cafes, shops and beaches, the island is somewhat flat and perfect for bicycling. The small coastal village of Perdika has some nice seafood restaurants as do most of the coastal towns and settlements. The Temple of Aphaia above the resort town of Agia Marina is an essential stop for those who are interested in history and archaeology. Surprisingly Aegina is one island which has really retained it's Greekness. Maybe because it is too close to Athens to be attractive to mass tourism. It is also a great place to go in the winter and the off-season. Aegina is a good island for people who want to see Athens but not necessarily stay in Athens because you can get to the city in an hour or less. For more information see Matt Barrett's Guide to Aegina. Click on the links below to see my recommended hotels followed by other highly rated accommodations. You can also use the Aegina Hotel Search if the choices here seem too overwhelming or if you are looking for a particular hotel. A great way to plan your trip is my Create-an-itinerary page which allows you to put together a custom itinerary with the help of a travel agency with no obligation to book. You can find recommended travel agencies on Matt's Travel Agencies and Tours Page. |
You can find more hotels, villas, apartments, holiday homes and rooms in Aegina by location, price, whether or not it has a swimming pool or is on the beach, and see photos, maps and reviews by Searching More Aegina Hotels. Excellent prices and many hotels you can book and then cancel with no cancellation fee. For those who want to book without using a travel agency this is the best way to do it.
