Aegina makes a nice day trip from Athens but it is also a popular island for people to spend a day or two or even a week or two. With a scenic port town with restaurants, cafes, shops and beaches, the island is somewhat flat and perfect for bicycling. The small coastal village of Perdika has some nice seafood restaurants as do most of the coastal towns and settlements. The Temple of Aphaia above the resort town of Agia Marina is an essential stop for those who are interested in history and archaeology. Surprisingly Aegina is one island which has really retained it's Greekness. Maybe because it is too close to Athens to be attractive to mass tourism. It is also a great place to go in the winter and the off-season. Aegina is a good island for people who want to see Athens but not necessarily stay in Athens because you can get to the city in an hour or less.
