Thessaloniki (or Saloniki or Salonika) is a very different city from Athens but no less sophisticated and (some might say) culturally superior. The influence of the east is more pronounced, not just in the delicious food, but in the relaxed lifestyle. Thessaloniki is a big city, the most important port in the Balkans, with an almost college town feel, like Boston or Austin, but Greek. The nightlife in Thessaloniki is exceptional, the bars and clubs play great music. The restaurants and ouzeries are among the best in Greece. There are beaches in and around the city and some of the best beaches in Greece within an hour's drive. To get the full experience stay in the center where everything is walkable. For more information see my Guide to Thessaloniki. Click on the links below to see my recommended hotels followed by other highly rated accommodations. A great way to plan your trip is my Create-an-itinerary page which allows you to put together a custom itinerary with the help of a travel agency with no obligation to book. You can find recommended travel agencies on Matt's Travel Agencies and Tours Page. Because many of these hotels you are going directly to the hotel’s booking page you won’t find customers reviews and the descriptions were written by the hotels. You can find reviews by googling the name of the hotel and location or Searching Booking.com. But please come back here to book the hotel and help support my websites. Or get assistance from one of my recommended travel agencies. |
